Callaway county authorities search woods for accused car thief
CALLAWAY COUNTY - The Holts Summit Police Department, Callaway County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol suspended the search early Thursday afternoon for at least one suspect they said fled authorities on foot after being accused of stealing a car and breaking into a business.
Holts Summit Police Chief Kyle McIntyre said officers responded to a call of a burglary at Doolittle Trailer Manufacturing near the intersection of Highway 54 and Route AA. He said the suspect was in a vehicle stolen out of Kansas City and when the suspect tried to get away, the Ford Ranger pickup they were driving got stuck in the mud and the suspect took off on foot in the nearby woods. He said Callaway County deputies tracked the suspect but were unable to locate them. It's not clear if the suspect was alone or not.
McIntyre said when officers ran the vehicle's license plates, they came back to another stolen vehicle out of Callaway county, which officers later located at a nearby auto repair shop.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance video from both businesses to try to identify the suspect.
While the active search is over, police are still following up on leads.
