Candlelight Lodge Plans
But at a hearing Tuesday morning, the Tapestry Group encouraged commissioners to keep in mind the growing retired population, and the growing needs of this group. It wants to improve and expand The Candlelight Lodge, but first it will need to buy the facility for $8 million. It wants to do so with tax free bonds, and thinks the county should rethink it's policy on restricting a tax break on this kind of project.
"These corporate documents were written 30 years ago, when life was a little different than it is today. And they need to look at adjusting those attitudes to address the publicly known concerns and the concerns of the everyday individual working for a living," said Tapestry Group representative Gene Wilczewski.
Even though commissioner Skip Elkin says he's open to discussing changing some of the policies, he says he doesn't think the rule that requires economic development for a tax break will change. The commissioners don't expect a final decision for at least a couple of weeks.
