Cardinals Complete Nationals Sweep
WASHINGTON, DC (AP) -The Cardinals completed their three city, 9-game road trip with a contest Wednesday afternoon in Washington D.C. against the Nationals.
Stephen Strasburg started for Washington, trying to prevent a Cards sweep. Here are a few of the games biggest highlights:
In the 1st inning, Cardinals had loaded bases with Yadier Molina at bat. He smacked a 2 RBI single, allowingMatt caCrpenter and Matt Holliday to score. Cards lead 2-0. Later in the inning, Daniel Descalso at bat for St. Louis would hit a ground ball to third. Nationals tried to go for the double play instead of the out at home, but the throw was off and Carlos Beltran scored, making it a 3-0 game.
In the top of the 2nd with Cardinals batting, Matt Carpenter hit a fly ball to right. The Nationals couldn't make the catch and instead would throw it to 2nd to get Carpenter out, ending the inning.
Moving to the 7th, Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg struck out Shane Robinson swinging. He pitched 7 innings and gave up 5 hits and three runs.
Jaime Garcia pitched 5 and two thirds innings, allowing just one earned run. Trevor Rosenthal allowed a homer to Jayson Werth. But St. Louis would pull it off to win 4-2, sweeping the Nationals and completing their road trip with a 6-3 record.
