Cardinals Drop Two-Game Series with Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles from Jack Wilson and Xavier Nady. The lead balloned to five in the third inning on a home run by Adam LaRoche.
The Pirates gave the big lead to Tom Gorzelany, who pitched eight and one-third innings, striking out two, and allowing a fifth inning sacrifice fly by Cardinals catcher Gary Bennett for the Redbirds only run. Adam Wainwright took the loss for the Tigers giving up five runs on eight hits, striking out four.
The Cardinals face an old friend when they hit the road to face the San Francisco Giants for a two-game series starting Wednesday. Former Cardinal Matt Morris starts the first game for the Giants against Randy Keisler, making his second start for St. Louis.
