Cardinals fail to capitalize before All-Star break
SAN FRANCISCO - A late home run lifted the Giants over the Cardinals to take the last series before the All-Star break.
Cardinal's pitcher Jack Flaherty had a no-hitter through six innings. He retired 12 batters before letting a walk go in the fifth inning.
In the 7th inning Evan Longoria broke Flaherty's bid for a no hitter with a long home run to left field. Flaherty ended the day with six strikeouts and two hits in the seventh inning.
The Cardinals dropped the final series of the nine-game road trip.
St. Louis enters the All-Star break two games behind the first place Chicago Cubs.
