Cardinals open pivotal weekend series vs Braves
COLUMBIA - St. Louis is looking into a tough series this weekend, opening an important three game stand against the Atlanta Braves at Busch Stadium.
The Braves, who are at the top of the National League East, have re-activated star rookie outfielder Ronald Acuña, who has been out the past month with a right knee injury. Prior to the injury, Acuña was batting .265 with five home runs.
Acuña has a tough matchup in his first game back as the Cardinals are putting Miles Mikolas on the hill Friday night. Mikolas, who is putting together an argument for the best free agent pickup of the offseason, is 8-2 with a 2.69 ERA. The Braves will give the ball to Julio Teheran, who has been struggling with a 5-5 record and a 4.52 ERA. First pitch is slated for 8:15 PM.
The Saturday night matchup will feature the Cardinals Luke Weaver (4-6, 4.59) vs. Brandon McCarthy (6-3, 4.92). Weaver, who of late has struggled, will look to make a statement game against a top tier NL offense. First pitch is 7:15 PM.
But all eyes should turn to the Sunday Matinee game, where the Cardinals offense will be tested against Braves star pitcher Mike Foltynewicz (5-4, 2.14), who has the 5th best Earned Run Average in all of baseball. Foltynewicz has been red-hot as of late, who in his last 42 innings pitched has locked in a 1.07 ERA. St. Louis will look to match with John Gant (2-2 3.48) on the rubber. First pitch is 2:15 PM.
