Cardinals Open Series With a Win Against the Cubs
CHICAGO - St. Louis visited Chicago tonight to start a four game series, but it was a nail biter till the end.
Both the Cards' and the Cubs scored in the third to be tied 1-1, but Harrison Bader for St. Louis drove in two runs with a single and a double in the 5th and 6th inning as well as a single by Yadier Molina to take the lead 4-1.
The Cubs were shut down for most of the game as Jack Flaherty pitched for eight innings, having eight strikeouts, and allowing three hits and one walk.
But taking Flaherty out did not work well as the Cards' gave up three runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 4-4 and send it to extra innings.
Nevertheless, all it took was a solo home run by Matt Carpenter at the top of the 10th inning to give the Cardinals both the lead and the game by a score of 5-4.
St. Louis moves to four games ahead of Chicago in the division and three ahead of Milwaukee and face the Cubs again tomorrow night.
