Cardinals overpowered by Brewers offense
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Cardinals were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-2, Saturday night.
A second inning solo bomb by the red hot Tommy Edman put the Cardinals out to an early lead in their Saturday night match up with division rival Milwaukee Brewers.
Unfortunately, two runs is all fans would see on the scoreboard for the Cardinals as they would go cold offensively for the rest of the game.
The Brewers took advantage of the Cardinals offensive woes with home runs from Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal and a RBI from Eric Thames.
St. Louis pitcher Jack Flaherty struck out 10 batters in six innings in the losing effort. Jordan Lyles earns the win and Josh Hader gets the save for the Milwaukee Brewers.
With the 5-2 victory, the Brewers pull within one game of the Chicago Cubs and four games of the St. Louis Cardinals in a close race for the NL Central.
The Cardinals and Brewers face off for the last time this season Sunday at 1:15 PM in St. Louis.
