There's no way way of getting around going to work, even when roads are bad.

"I was not going all that fast," said Terry Hart. "Actually, I thought I was well within the limits of both the road and the vehicle. Just going around one particular curb, the back end of the car literally came around to the front, and the car went right off the road."

And those affected the most are those who must drive in all conditions.

"As far as we're concerned, with the tractor trailer, you just want a nice, steady applied-braking method," said Rick Meirerotto of United Parcel Service.

Paul Reinsch of the Missouri Highway Patrol has some advice for driving in dangerous conditions.

"The most important thing is to prepare yourself before you leave," he said. "Know how to turn those windshield wipers on. Know how to turn on the air conditioning, the heating, the radio. Know how to operate these things when you're going down the highway."

For more informaiton on road safety, check the highway patrol website. Although icy roads are dangerous, it's good to know there are precautions to take in order to avoid accidents or injury.
