JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - State Auditor Susan Montee says there is no law allowing officials to use their state vehicles for personal or political trips, not even if they reimburse the state. Montee's assertions come as part of an audit of Republican Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder's office. Kinder has been reimbursing the state for driving his car on personal and political trips. The audit also has implications for Democratic Attorney General Jay Nixon. Nixon had been using his state car for personal and political trips on the justification that it was necessary for security. But just last week, Nixon's gubernatorial campaign committee wrote a $47,000 check to the state as reimbursement. Montee says legislators should consider a law clarifying whether reimbursement is allowed.
