CCSO: Armed suspect shot by deputy, suspect in serious condition
CALLAWAY COUNTY - A sergeant with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office shot an armed suspect Saturday night, leaving the suspect in serious condition, Lt. Clay Chism of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said.
Chism said at 10:23 p.m. Saturday night, deputies responded to reports of an armed suspect threatening others at a private property on Highway 94 east of the Callaway County portion of Jefferson City.
Chism said deputies responding to the call received information of shots fired, leading deputies to request assistance from the Jefferson City Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Chism said when deputies arrived, the armed suspect approached them "in a threatening manner." He said a "veteran shift sergeant" then shot the suspect. Medics transported the suspect to the hospital in serious condition, Chism said.
Chism would not release the names of the sergeant nor the suspect involved in the shooting. He said the Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and the sergeant was on administrative leave as of early Sunday morning.
Chism said there was "some biker activity" noticed at the property in the past few months. KOMU 8 News spoke to Jared Sheneman, who said he had family in the building at the time of the shooting. Sheneman said the building is a biker club.
Law enforcement shut down Highway 94 for over an hour as officers investigated.
Chism said deputies may release more information Sunday.
