Central Mo. Humane Society Holds First Event After Leader's Death
COLUMBIA- The Central Missouri Humane society held its first event on Sunday since the death of its executive director.
The annual Famous Fosters Kitten Adoption Event was still held despite Mary Pat Boatfield's death. Boatfield died Wednesday from a heart attack. The humane society's staff say that holding the event is what Boatfield would have wanted.
"We feel it's important to move ahead," said Board Vice President Chris Koukola, "We think Mary Pat would have wanted us to move ahead."
Koukola also said that their highest priority is their animals and Boatfield would have agreed with that.
"Mary Pat wouldn't want any slow down whatsoever," said Board President Richard Wallace, "We are doing what Mary Pat would have wanted."
Boatfield was introduced as executive director in 2012. Julie Aber is serving as the interim director until the humane society hires a new executive director. Koukola said the board of directors will begin their search to fill the position in the near future.
