City Council Members Ride Buses Before Vote
COLUMBIA - Two city council members took up a request by PedNet to ride city buses Thursday before a vote Monday on funding the system in the city budget. Council members Fred Schmidt and Barbara Hoppe said they would ride the buses to talk to riders and get a first hand experience of the process. Assistant City Manager Tony St. Romaine said Thursday the money that funds the buses would run out by June if the city does not change funding. City Manager Mike Mathes proposed fare increases for buses to solve the problem.
The increases would mean an additional 50 cents per ride for a daily pass and a $20 increase for a 30-day pass.
