City Personnel Board Makes Recommendation on Rob Sanders' Job
COLUMBIA - The city manager's office received a recommendation from the city's personnel board late Wednesday regarding whether former Columbia police officer Rob Sanders will get his job back. The city clerk told KOMU 8 News the board made its recommendation, but would not release what the recommendation was.
KOMU 8 News contacted Sanders Wednesday at which point he said he had not yet been notified the city manager received the recommendation.
City Manager Mike Matthes now has 30 days to make a decision on Sanders' fate. It is not clear whether that decision would be made public.
The personnel board heard arguments from Sanders and Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton November 15.
Chief Burton fired Sanders in 2011 after video surfaced of Sanders shoving an inmate in a jail cell. Chief Burton has maintained that Sanders used excessive force. Meanwhile, Sanders has said he followed his training. He's been fighting to get his job back ever since.
