City Says No Money for Expanded Bus Service
COLUMBIA - Toni Messina, a spokesperson for the City of Columbia, said Wednesday there is no money in the city's budget for extended hours for the transit system.
A recent survey conducted by PedNet, Columbia Transit and the Columbia Health Department shows riders of the city's public transportation system, if given options for expansion, would prefer extension of service hours during the weekday.
Currently, Monday through Wednesday, Columbia Transit service runs from 6:25 a.m. to 6:25 p.m.
PedNet estimates the cost of a trial for expansion of service times to be roughly $20,000.
