Some Columbia businesses already provide their customers with WiFi access. The Columbia Public Library welcomes the possible addition.
"I don't see it as a change. I don't think if the city went with a city-wide WiFi, I don't think it would change us one bit," said Mike Mullet, Columbia Public Library Internet Technology manager. "I don't think we're going to take out what we have. I just think it'll be a complement."
The Columbia School Board has discussed city-wide WiFi at a meeting with the City Council. The school board said it could provide computers for West Junior High students, but not Internet access. The council has no plans to add city-wide Internet access.
