Clinton Holds Unannounced Fundraiser
Observers in both parties say it's strange that there was no advance publicity for the 90-minute luncheon at the Country Club Plaza home of Herb Kohn, an adviser to Mayor Kay Barnes. Organizers say the event netted Clinton's Senate re-election campaign at least $40,000. Some Democrats complained that she could have helped statewide candidates like Missouri Auditor and Senate hopeful Claire McCaskill. Republicans say Clinton hid her visit because she's too liberal for Missouri. State GOP spokesman Paul Sloca says "It makes sense for her to sneak in and then zip right out." But a Democrat who went to the fund-raiser says Clinton is a "breath of fresh air."
