CMU Football and Golf Teams Take Home Weekly Awards
FAYETTE, MO - After allowing under 100 yards of total offense against Culver-Stockton College on Saturday, the Central Methodist University football defense was selected as the NAIA Defense of the Week by Beyond Sports College Network.
In the 42-5 win over Culver-Stockton, the CMU defense held the Wildcats to just four rushing yards and 90 passing yards on 67 offensive plays. The Central Methodist defense snagged three interceptions, including one that was returned 53 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles also finished with 14.5 tackles for loss totalling -69 yards, including six sacks for -48 yards in the game.
Central Methodist University sophomore Ty Lieberman was recognized as the HAAC men's golfer-of-the-week after opening the season with a career-best tournament at the William Woods Fall Invitational last week.
Lieberman shot a personal-best three-under par 69 to hold the lead after the first day of the William Woods tournament. After shooting a 76 on day two, Lieberman finished in a tie for sixth overall, just four strokes out of first place. Lieberman's two-round total of 145 was also a career-best, and helped lead the CMU men's golf team to a third-place team finish in the Eagles' first tournament of the year.
