CMU Women's and Men's Track Teams Win CMU Open
FAYETTE, MO -- The Central Methodist women's and men's track teams each placed first in the 2012 Central Methodist Open on Saturday. The women's team took the top spot with a total of 155 points, while the men's team tallied 141 points to top every other team.
"It was a great start to the outdoor season for us to get two wins," Central Methodist head coach Mark Nelson stated. "We expect to continue to improve as the season goes on."
On the women's side, the Eagles' Kelly Klusmeyer broke the school records in the Shot Put with a toss of 11.87 meters and in the Discus with a throw of 42.25 meters. Melissa Morrow broke the school record in the Hammer Throw with a throw of 46.63 meters. Kaitlyn Loeffler took first in the 5,000 Meter Race Walk, establishing a new school record time of 32:00.51.
Central Methodist's Adrianna Romero was second in the 800 Meter Run in 2:32.79. Katie Olvera took second in the 1,500 Meter Run in 5:08.32.
The Eagles' Rebeca Barajas finished first in the High Jump after clearing 1.62 meters and third in the 100 Meter Hurdles in a time of 16.02 seconds. Kate Barnett was second in the High Jump after clearing 1.52 meters. Shelby Garrigus was second in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.31 meters and first in the Triple Jump with a distance of 10.53 meters. Amelia Truex took third in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.94 meters.
On the men's side, Central Methodist's Jordan Kukal set a new school record and "B" national qualifier in the Discus with a toss of 47.53 meters. Cody Ervin placed third in the 110 Meter Hurdles in 15.66 seconds. Kiefer Smith took first in the in the Pole Vault, clearing 4.37 meters. Kris Kuoppamaki was second in the Long Jump at 6.41 meters and second in the Triple Jump at 13.11 meters.
The Eagles' Bryan Lechner took third in the Long Jump at 6.32 meters. Josh Perry won the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.20 meters, while Derek Musgrove was third at 13.00 meters. Dilan Simmons took second in the Shot Put with a toss of 13.54 meters. Curtis Bedor was first in the 5,000 Meter Racewalk in a time of 27:37.20.
