Cole County Assessor charged with assault
JEFFERSON CITY - The Cole County's Sheriff's Office says County Assessor Christopher Estes punched someone in the face in a dispute over property lines on Thursday.
The owner of the property at 1600 Wooded Hills in Jefferson City told deputies he got into a fight with Estes, according to a probable cause statement. Danny Schaffer said Estes was parked in his driveway.
Estes admitted his hand touched Schaffer's chin and he pushed Schaffer away, the probable cause statement said.
Deputies said a witness confirmed what happened.
Estes told deputies that he was fearing for his own safety "because of his medical history," the document said.
He has been charged with one count of fourth-degree assault.
Estes was released on Friday and a court date has yet to be set.
