Cole County Investigating Water Tower Shooting
The 250,000 gallon water tower just outside of Raos off Route M was shot with what the sheriff's department believes may have been a 30 caliber weapon.
The hole, located on the underside of the tower, was leaking a stream of water about the size of a garden hose. Authorities estimate the damage at about $7,000.
"Anytime any of our infrastructure such as our watertowers and stuff is got damage to them, we're going to try to do our best to try to figure out what's going on," said John Wheeler Captain, Cole County sheriff. "We encourage citizens if they know anything about this to please contact our office."
The Water District took the tower off-line and drained it during repairs. Tampering with infrastructure like a water tower is a federal offense.
