Cole County Sheriff Greg White announces retirement
JEFFERSON CITY - Cole County Sheriff Greg White announced Monday he will retire after this year.
White has served in law enforcement for 34 years.
"I suspect that is long enough," White said in a news release. He will be 64 in 2016, when he would otherwise seek re-election.
White endorsed Captain John Wheeler as the next Cole County Sheriff. He said, "John is a man of integrity that believes in the people of Cole County. He is equipped and prepared to carry the vision, the torch of transparent integrity, to greater horizons than the office has yet to experience." White said there are other staff in the office qualified to replace him.
White has experience in law enforcement, jail management/operations, civil process service, and parks and recreation. White also spent years as a pastor in Alaska and Missouri.
Sheriff White said, "Thank you for this opportunity I have had for the last three terms as your Sheriff. Cole County citizens, as a people, are a blessing!"
