Columbia and Jefferson City Residents Make "Smart" Choices
Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine ranks Columbia 24th and Jefferson City 35th on this year's "Top 50 Smartest Places to Live."
The list ranks cities for living, eating, shopping and playing.
"You get a lot of house for your money in the Columbia area," said Carol Vangorp of the Columbia Board of Realtors. "Nationwide, the existing home median price is $218,000."
Columbia's median home price is $125,000.
"If you've lived elsewhere or visited elsewhere, you'd have an appreciation for how good our prices really are," said Don Laird of the Chamber of Commerce. "Our prices are quite moderate compared to some of the communities on the West or East Coast."
Resident Joshua Nelton added, "It's right up the scale, education-wise. Kids get a lot of good education, and that's one great thing for a child growing up."
Resident Lea Marienfield said, "It's got a lot of interesting cultural activities. My husband loves music. I love music. There's a lot of concerts we enjoy and good places to eat."
Kiplinger's magazine also looked at crime, climate and healthcare.
