Columbia Bikes for Family Fun Fest
Erin Carrillo, recreation specialist for Columbia Parks and Recreation, said this month's Family Fun Fest focuses on fitness. The event included sports activities, gymnastic performances, and is also a part of the Bike, Walk and Wheel week.
"This event is also a part of the national fitness month, which is May. And it encourages people to get out and get active," Carrillo said.
Janet Godon, GetAbout Columbia outreach coordinator, said the Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week is an opportunity for people to think creatively about how they can get around the community.
"Whether it's by walking, biking, or other transits, all of those help reduce your budget, help keep you fit, and it is just a fun way to get around," Godon said.
Nick Maglio, a local bike polo player, joined the event and played bike polo with other teammates. Maglio said it is the second year they played bike polo during the Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week. He said he also encourages parents to let their kids bike or walk to school if it is safe and possible.
