Columbia College announces new athletic director
COLUMBIA - Columbia College President Scott Dalrymple announced Wednesday afternoon James Arnold has been named athletic director. Arnold will oversee 17 varsity sports.
Arnold has experience as an administrator and coach. Arnold most recently was the associate athletic director and head women's basketball coach at Westminster College in Fulton.
Prior to his time at Westminster, Arnold was an assistant women's basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University. Arnold was also previously associate athletic director and head coach of the Central Methodist University’s women's basketball team.
Arnold replaces former A.D. Bob Burchard, who held the position for the past 31 years.
"I am extremely excited and honored to be the next Athletic Director at Columbia College," Arnold said in a statement. "I want to thank Dr. Dalrymple and the committee for this opportunity and their trust to lead one of the nation's premier athletic departments. I have always admired Columbia College and Cougar athletics from afar and through this process have been even more impressed by the people, the facilities, and the campus."
He assumes the position May 1.
