Columbia College Soccer Drops to Park
PARKVILLE- The Cougar women's soccer team fell to American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Park University 2-0 on the road Friday night. With the loss, Columbia finishes their inaugural regular season with a record of 9-9 and a 6-2 mark in conference play. Park improves to 8-6 overall and stays perfect at 6-0 in conference play with two AMC games left to play.
The Pirates wasted little time getting on the scoreboard when Nichole Hemmingsen found the back of the Columbia goal less than three minutes into the contest. That goal would stand as the lone tally of the first half as neither offense was able to find a rhythm.
The defensive struggle continued throughout much of the second period before Park's Alexandria Erickson added a late goal to give Pirates the 2-0 shutout.
Junior Amber Petty started in goal for the Cougars, logging four saves. Park outshot Columbia 14-10 on the night, with the Cougars posting seven shots on-goal compared to six for the Pirates.
With the regular season wrapped up the Cougars will wait for all the AMC games to be played before finding out whom and when they will play. The AMC Postseason Tournament starts on Friday, November 1st for the women with the quarterfinal round. The top two seeds in the tournament will be given a bye as the third seed will host the six seed and the fourth seed will host the fifth seed for a chance to play in the semifinals on Monday, November 5th. The AMC championship game is slated for Thursday, November 8th at the home of the highest remaining seed.
