Columbia Elementary School to Receive Grant

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 3M  Foundation awarded announced Wednesday it will award a grant to Shepherd Boulevard Elementary School in Columbia.

3M will award Shepherd the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Grant to honor the work of teachers who work to spark student interest in achievement in science, technology, engineering, and math. Principal Jonetta Weaver, and teachers Susan Heath and Jan McLuckie helped secure the grant.

Recipients were selected based on an application process that asked teachers to address how their programs align with goals for the school district, school and classroom; how teamwork is used to combine methods and resources; how the program engages students through instruction that sparks interest and acheivement; the program's relevance in the community; and an evaluation plan to determine the program's success.

The grant will be awarded sometime in the next month.
