Columbia living costs below national average in 2014
COLUMBIA - Living costs in Columbia were 5.3 percent below the nationwide average in 2014, according to the ACCRA Cost of Living Index provided by the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER).
Columbia received a composite index figure of 94.7 last year, meaning $100 worth of goods purchased in an average U.S. city cost just $94.70 in Columbia.
The composite Index is based on six weighted components. Columbia's figures for these components were:
- Grocery items: 96.1
- Housing: 88.1
- Utilities: 97
- Transportation: 91
- Health care 101.8
- Miscellaneous goods and services 99.5
Items are priced by Columbia Chamber of Commerce staff three times a year at a specified time, according to standardized specifications. The Index does not measure inflation or price change over time.
