Columbia Names Interim Finance Director
COLUMBIA - John Blattel, currently the city's internal auditor, will serve as Columbia's financial guru on an interim basis after the current city finance director resigns next week.
City manager Bill Watkins says Blattel will take over for finance director Lori Fleming when she leaves to take a position with the U.S. Treasury Department on December 3.
During his appointment, Blattel's duties as internal auditor would be essentially suspended, although he will "continue to monitor a few of his current assignments," Watkins said in a statement.
The finance director is in charge of monitoring the city's investments, accounting, and payroll, and also has an integral role in budget planning.
The city says Blattel has more than 30 years of experience in the Missouri State Auditor's office, holds his CPA license, and is a certified fraud examiner. His annual salary during his interim appointment will increase from $68,000 to $95,000.
