Columbia police arrest two in connection to overnight shooting, identify burglary suspect
COLUMBIA — Police arrested two people Friday in connection to an overnight shooting near Highland Drive.
Larry K. Brownlee Jr., 25, and Daravion Fajardo, 25, of Columbia were both charged with resisting arrest for a felony. According to previous KOMU reporting, officers heard gunshots and saw a vehicle traveling fast near Highland Drive around 1 a.m. After a pursuit, both the driver and passenger ran from the vehicle. Officers found and detained both of them.
Columbia police also identified Julian J. Shumpert,18, of Columbia as a suspect involved in the burglary that occurred in the 100 block of Garth Avenue. According to previous KOMU reporting, officers responded to a burglary in progress around 4:30 a.m. Officers were notified while en route that shots had been fired. They received a call about a potential suspect at the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Shumpert was charged with first degree burglary, armed criminal action, first degree assault and possession of a controlled substance as a misdemeanor.
Both cases will be handled by the new Violent Crime Task Force, which includes officers from CPD, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, University of Missouri Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
