Columbia Police Release Results of Alcohol Enforcement
COLUMBIA - Throughout the week of March 16-20, the Columbia Police Department participated in a statewide crackdown on intoxicated drivers as part of the "You Drink and Drive, You Lose" campaign. Patrol officers, the DWI Enforcement Unit, and officers working overtime put their efforts towards removing substance-impaired drivers from the streets.
On the night of March 18, the CPD and officers from the Hallsville Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Providence Road and Big Bear Boulevard. Between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., 222 motorists were stopped, and 18 arrests were made, including three DWIs, one felony warrant, two in possession of marijuana and one felon in possession of a loaded AK-47 assault rifle.
The CPD extended their thanks to those motorists who went through the checkpoint for their patience and cooperation during their efforts.
