COLUMBIA - Columbia Public Schools has been chosen to receive the "Best New Program Award" in the school district category of the 2010 Green Cleaning Awards for Schools and Universities. The Green Cleaning Award program recognizes educational institutions for their healthy and sustainable approaches to cleaning to protect health without harming the environment. Programs are judged for their use of green cleaning products, equipment and supplies; adoption of green cleaning procedures and use of green plastic and paper products.

One grand award winner, four honorable mention awards and one best new program award were given in the category of school districts. The "Best New Program Award" recognizes those programs that are just getting off the ground, but in a commendable way. The Green Cleaning Awards are sponsored by American School & University magazine, The Green Cleaning Network and the Healthy School Campaign.

The district will be featured in the December issue of American School & University magazine. For more information about the magazine and the green cleaning awards visit The Green Buildings Category Archive.
