Columbia teen pleads guilty in connection with January murder
COLUMBIA - A Columbia man pleaded guilty in court Monday to involuntary manslaughter in the January shooting death of a Columbia teenager.
Stone Midgyett, 19, was sentenced to four years in prison for his guilty plea in the death of 17-year-old Deante Smith.
Back in January, the Columbia Police Department spoke to Midgyett at the scene of the shooting near Silver Mill Drive and White River Drive. Police took Midgyett to the police department for further questioning.
Police said Midgyett reported he and his associates fought with Smith and his associates the day of the shooting. Midgyett said Smith ran and began shooting at him. Midgyett said he shot about 14 rounds at Smith. Smith was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
