COLUMBIA - Several local chiropractic businesses have received phone calls from people claiming to be employees of Columbia Water and Light. The individuals demand payment for a delinquent utility bill.

The caller claims the businesses account is delinquent and facing immediate shut-off if the bill is not paid over the phone.

The City of Columbia Utility Customer Service wants to remind people it never demands payment over the phone.

Anybody who receives a phone call demanding payment over the phone to prevent the shut-off of utilities should report the incident to the Columbia Police Department by calling 3-1-1.
