Columbia Voters Hit the Polls
COLUMBIA - It's time to head to the polls, in Columbia voters will tackle a handful of hot button issues.
Firstly, Constitutional Amendment 1, if passed, means assessors in charter counties must be elected rather than simply appointed. Constitutional Amendment 2 would give property tax exemption to former POWs. The last constitutional amendment, Amendment 3, would block a real estate transfer tax from being imposed on Missouri real estate.
Voters will also make their choice on a couple of propositions. Proposition 1, if approved, would extend the one-eighth of a percent sales tax for 5 more years in order to maintain public parks. Proposition 2 is the Taser ban. Proposition 2 aims to place a city-wide ban on Taser use. Those who support the measure say they're dangerous and often misused. Those who oppose say Tasers are vital to law enforcement.
