Columbia Wins St. Xavier Midwest Tournament
CHICAGO - Columbia College's men's basketball team defeated St. Ambrose University 72-62 Thursday in the championship match to win the St. Xavier Midwest Tournament.
The Cougars improve to 11-4 on the season.
Columbia shot 61 percent in the first half and went into the locker room ahead 40-31. The Bees of St. Ambrose fueled a comeback in the second half, but Columbia held on for the 10-point victory.
Leading the Cougars, Henrique Medeiros landed 19 points and five assists. Three other Cougars hit double digits in scoring: Taylor Evans, Wendell Crowder and Jordan Dressler.
Columbia heads home for its next contest. The Cougars host the Cougars vs. Cancer Classic presented by Cost Cutters on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 30-31.
