Commission Seeks to Keep Army Jobs in St. Louis
St. Louis - The Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission is still trying to convince the Army nor to move its Human Resources Command away from St. Louis. Recommendations a couple years ago from the Federal Base Realignment and Closure Commission included moving the HRC's St. Louis operation to Fort Knox, Kentucky. The move is scheduled to take place in 2009. But Republican state representative David Pearce of Warrensburg said he doesn't think that is a wise move, noting the St. Louis building is secure and that it would cost about $200 million to build a new facility in Kentucky. He also questioned whether Fort Knox has the capacity to hire 2,000 people.
