Community bike ride planned to honor late Mayor Darwin Hindman
COLUMBIA - PedNet Coalition will host a community bike ride memorial service in honor of the late Darwin Hindman on June 22.
Hindman was Columbia's longest-serving mayor and was in office for 15 years.
The one-mile memorial ride will start at Stephens Lake park and end at the Calvary Episcopal Church, where Hindman's funeral will be held.
Hindman was often seen biking across town. He strongly believed a community with good trails, parks and schools was crucial for Columbia. He was considered the father of the Katy Trail.
People who want to take part in the bike ride can meet at Darwin & Axie Hindman Discovery Garden at Stephens Lake Park between 11:45 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The church service will start at 1 p.m.
