Construction begins on Forum-Green Meadows Roundabout
COLUMBIA - Crews will start construction on the Forum Boulevard/Green Meadows dual-lane roundabout Monday.
The construction will cause traffic delays. The city plans to complete the project in two phases to limit congestion as much as possible.
The first phase of construction will include the west side of the roundabout. It will take approximately 65-75 days to complete. After that, construction will begin on the east side. In total, the project is projected to be completed in 150 days.
The city also says to expect longer than usual delays, and says it encourages drivers to take alternate routes.
One owner of a nearby business expressed concerns off camera about the construction’s effect on customers’ ability to reach his parking lot.
This intersection is a part of Columbia’s 10-year plan utilizing the 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax. In a press release, the city said the roundabout will “increase safety and reduce congestion by removing the all-way stop and constructing the roundabout.”
The city said the estimated total investment in the project is $1.2 million, and that regular updates on the project will be posted to the city’s social media page.
