COLUMBIA - The Cosmopolitan Club will not continue to provide the farm animals in Nifong Park after this season.

The Boone County Historical Society said there were many reasons the club will not be sponsoring the animals after their season which goes to the end of September. The main reason is the cost to take care of the animals.

Park Services Manager Mike Griggs said the Parks and Recreation Department is trying to find another sponsor for the viewing area. They may just buy their own animals or rent them from a farmer for the summer.

Griggs said the department spent $10,000 to redo the pens a few years ago and the animals are an important part of the Heritage Festivals so the viewing area will remain in the park.
