Cougar Cross Country Men Win St. Louis Fall Classic
ST. LOUIS -- The Cougar men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday in the St. Louis Fall Classic, hosted by the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Columbia men won the team portion of the event, placing first out of seven teams. The Columbia women placed third out of nine teams, finishing behind Washington University and William Woods University.
The Cougar men were led by freshman Cody Gorham, who finished second overall with a time of 25:57. Michael McCulloch finished fourth with a time of 26:30, followed by Cameron Schmitz (26:33) in sixth, Devin Sander (26:51) in eighth, Jason Thurman (27:24) in 16th, and Jordan Andrews (29:27) in 38th.
Freshman Julia Montgomery led the Cougars on the women's side, finishing in fifth place overall with a time of 19:32 in the 5K race. Julia Collins placed 15th with a time of 20:08, followed by Emily Shultz (20:30) in 20th, Makayla Rupp (20:57) in 27th, and Kelsey Baldwin (21:12) in 30th overall.
The Columbia men and women are idle until Friday, November 2nd, when they travel to Jefferson City for the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championships. The women race at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 2:45 p.m.
