COLUMBIA -- Columbia Cougar head men's and women's cross country coach Tim Cornell officially announced the signing of Cameron Schmitz and Julia Montgomery. The pair will begin their careers with the Cougars this fall.

Both Cameron and Julia come to Columbia as freshman, Cameron from Eureka High School in St. Louis and Julia from Blue Springs High School in Kansas City.

"Cameron is a very intelligent young man with big dreams," said Cornell. "He will be a very important part of this team moving into the future."

Schmitz brings with him a personal best of 16:37 in the cross country 5K as well as a 4:32 time for the 1600m and 9:55 for 3200m.

Julia will have some company when she arrives in Columbia as her twin sister Jessica will also be attending Columbia College. Jessica was awarded one of just five prestigious Columbia College Scholarships worth full tuition, room and board for the 2012-13 year. Julia was a state qualifier in 2011 and has run a personal best of 20:37 in the 5K and a 12:07 for a 3200m.

"Julia has an infectious personality," stated Cornell. "Her enthusiasm is a trait that will make her a great distance runner."
