Cougar Women Crush Stephens
COLUMBIA -- The Cougar women's soccer won their fifth game in a row Tuesday night, defeating cross-town opponent Stephens College by a score of 18-0 in an American Midwest Conference game. Columbia improves to 8-7 on the year and 6-1 in AMC play with the victory.
The Cougars scored early and often throughout the match, with Rylee Bruhn netting the first goal of the match just two minutes into the contest. Reigning AMC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award winner Kelly Ross notched her eighth assist of the season on the play. Columbia would score ten more goals to close out the first period and take an 11-0 lead into halftime.
The offense followed the first half up with seven more goals in the second period to complete their seventh shutout in the past eight games. Ross led the Cougar attack with her third hat trick in four games, while also contributing three assists.
Natausha Sanchez, Meg Goddard, and Rylee Bruhn scored two goals apiece for Columbia along with nine others contributing a goal on the night and 11 players recording one or more assists.Columbia currently sits in second place in the AMC standings, one game behind leader Park University. The Cougars and Pirates will meet on Friday, October 26th for the regular season conference championship.
