Covered Bridge Gets Facelift
"My husband's aunt, in the early 1900s, she wrote her name," recalled Centralia resident Rose Wright. "It was kind of a custom of the country kids or high school kids, even back in those days, to write their name in there."
However, Wright said the state should remove only inappropriate messages.
"I think it's good to leave the ones that have an earlier date, but the ones that say something that they shouldn't say, they should get rid of those," she explained.
Union Covered Bridge is one of only four left in Missouri. The historic site will be open during restoration, which crews will finish later this fall.
