Credit card skimmer found at Boonville gas station
BOONVILLE – Police said a technician at a local gas station found an internal skimmer device inside a gas pump on Friday.
Skimmer devices are designed to collect credit card information when a customer pays for fuel at the gas pump. Internal skimmers are installed inside the pump, making it more difficult to recognize. The installer then comes back later to collect the data.
Police said they don't know yet how many people will be affected, if any at all. They added a reminder for people to inspect the pump before starting, looking for skimmers or cameras which might capture video of the key pad where you might have to enter your PIN or zip code.
Police added you should also inspect the seals on the service doors of the pump and if they are broken, missing, or look suspicious, use a different pump and report that to the attendant.
