Crews battle fire at old Cole County correctional facility
JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri State Fire Marshal's office was investigating a fire Friday they say happened Thursday night at the old Church Farm Prison near Jefferson City.
Firefighters from the Jefferson City Fire Department were dispatched to the old correctional facility at 2600 Hwy. 179 at 8:12 p.m. Upon arrival, the first engine company reported the guard shack was on fire and there were flames showing on two sides of the building and the roof.
Firefighters said they had the fire under control in 10 minutes, but firefighter stayed at the scene another four hours.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but the Jefferson City Fire Department said the building was a total loss.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
