Crown Jewel of Boonville
Thespian Hall in Boonville is celebrating its 150 year anniversary this week during the Missouri River Festival. Volunteers say Boonville is lucky to have the venue.
"The Thespian Hall is one of the special jewels and the crown of Missouri architecture," said David Halen of the St. Louis Symphony.
Despite its age, many musicians say one thing that attracts them to Thespian Hall is the fact it has some of the best acoustics around.
"The audience loves it," said Frank Thatcher, Missouri River Festival Chairman. "It sounds just the same in the backrows as it does in the first."
Some theatre-goers simply enjoy the spirit of the hall.
"I feel history when I walk in here," volunteer Judy Scribner said. "I sort of feel the presence of those who have been here before. "
It is a feeling event organizers say won't be going away anytime soon. The Missouri River Festival runs through Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Thespian Hall.
