Crystal City cave owner found guilty in zoning flap
CRYSTAL CITY (AP) - A Jefferson County municipal judge has found the owner of a Crystal City cave guilty of holding two underground dance parties without a county-approved site plan.
An attorney for Crystal City Underground owner Tom Kerr tells The St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he will appeal the decision.
Twenty people were arrested on alcohol and drug charges and two partygoers treated for drug overdoses after the October 2014 "raves in the cave."
The county rezoned Kerr's property for commercial use in 2011. He has subsequently argued that venue should instead be overseen by the state agency that monitors mines and caves.
Sentencing for Kerr is set for next month. He faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Kerr was fined $500 in a related case.
