Cubs Win Opener Vs. Cards
Encarnacion drove his third run in with an RBI single in the third. The Cards chased Cubs' starter Rich Hill, who left after three and one-third innings and four runs allowed.
The Cubs came back in the sixth with RBI singles from Neifi Perez and Juan Pierre, and took the lead after Rolen's error allowed Angel Pagan to score the winning run.
Jeff Weaver started the game for St. Louis, pitching five and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs. Tyler Johnson earned the loss for the Cardinals, giving up the unearned run in the sixth. Roberto Novoa of the Cubs pitched one-third of an inning for the win, and Ryan Dempster notched his 18th save.
The Cubs and Cards play a matinee Friday, with the Cubs' Jason Marmol facing Jason Marquis.
