Dave Steckel reportedly taking head coaching job at Missouri State
COLUMBIA- Missouri will likely be looking for a defensive coordinator in the upcoming months.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, Missouri defensive coordinator Dave Steckel is reportedly taking the head coaching job at Missouri State. Steckel was the linebackers coach at Mizzou from 2001-2008 before taking over as defensive coordinator in 2009.
The Tigers ranked 23rd in total defense this season and allowed opponents an average of 344.4 yards per game and 4.76 yards per play. Steckel oversaw the defense during Missouri's national best turnover streak of 47 consecutive games with a forced turnover. He was nominated for the Frank Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in the nation, this season.
Missouri State fired head coach Terry Allen after the Bears finished 4-8 this season.
